私は2010年と2013年に〈脱皮〉という行為を行った。最初は東京の自宅で、二度目はドイツのギャラリーで試みた。そして三度目となる今回は、展示するギャラリーがビジネスホテル群に囲まれた場所にあることから、ホテルの一室で〈脱皮〉を行うことを思いついた。
過去の経験から、〈脱皮〉は成長の儀式として、心身に変化をもたらし、その後の生活にも転機を与えてきたと感じている。それは、成長への覚悟を目に見える形にすることで心が軽くなったからかもしれないし、新しいものを受け入れる準備が整ったからかもしれない。
今回は生活の場所と職を変える折に、そうした体験を頼りに脱皮の作用を信じて行為にのぞんだ。
I performed Ecdysis in 2010 and again in 2013—the first time at my home in Tokyo, and the second at a gallery in Germany. For this third iteration, inspired by the location of the gallery, which is surrounded by a cluster of business hotels, I decided to carry out the ecdysis in a hotel room.
I had come to feel that the act of shedding, performed as a kind of ritual, brought about changes both in mind and body, and even served as a turning point in my life. Perhaps it was because visualizing my commitment to growth lightened my emotional burden, or because it prepared me to embrace new things. Trusting in this effect once again, I chose to perform the act before changing my place of residence and my work, relying on shedding to help me step into the next phase of my life.
